I still strive for that Pollan-esque food, too. But I don't think the two are incompatible. We want to be eating good, fresh local food because it tastes better, not just because it's healthier, right? I think Satter is banking on people getting bored with junk food if that's all they're eating and they start really focusing on it. And if you really want junk food and try to deny yourself, you're more likely to binge. It's easier to be satisfied with a reasonable amount if you don't tell yourself it's forbidden food. She actually goes into some detail on how to include enough junk food when feeding your kids so they don't feel obliged to buy it on the sly and eat it instead of the food you're serving them.
