What's your favorite universe?

So [livejournal.com profile] sazattel was posting the other day about Prince Caspian. She said that Narnia is her favorite world. And I said it was mine, too.

But it got me thinking. I grew up with Narnia and Middle Earth and Pern. We had maps of Narnia and Middle Earth hung in the living room, banners from middle earth that my made hung, painted pictures of Reepicheep and the Dawn Treader painted on the half-wall upstairs. We read aloud, Narnia annually, The Lord of the Rings at least 5 times before I left home, sometimes Pern.

I loved the drama and romance of Middle Earth, dressed up with friends to visit Damar. I wanted to be a Harper on Pern and have my own fire lizard. In more recent fantasy forays, I want to take a class at Hogwarts and try being a librarian at the Library of the Clayr. But Narnia still seems like the nicest place to live.

What about you?

it's not so much that I wanted to live in a fantasy world, but I desperately wanted my own magical indian in a cupboard, or a wardrobe to travel, or muppets and fraggles to be friends with.

I think Narnia and Pern would be cool, but I've never been a fan of Middle Earth. I used to play Narnia when I was a kid; there's a closet-within-a-closet built in to our house that used to have a fur coat in it... And I wanted my own fire lizard, too.

These days I think Damar would be nifty, and I'd love to see the Library of the Clayr, but I'd rather go to Chalion. I don't know that it's the universe per se that interests me, but I'd love to really meet some of the people there.

I'm a bit ashamed to say I was a fan of the Xanth series; blame your husband for that.... I'm fairly sure he's the one who introduced me to them. :)

Nowerdays, all I know is that I don't want to live in the George RR Martin world. Most of the places I read about today are nice places to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Or maybe not so nice places to visit, making me happier about living here...

Tamora Pierce's Tortall, or Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover (after the Earthers rediscover them), or Pern, or Valdemar...

Wow. Too many to list right now.

Valdemar, cause if you are on the side of good, it is practically a perfect place.

I also like The Land (Donaldson) at the end of the first trilogy.

Oh...how about the Miles Vorkosian (sp) novels. Or the land of Calderon (Butcher novels) - those would be nice too!

Neat question!

That's a really, really, *really* difficult question.

And that's a *marvelous* question. One I definately will be bringing up to my own LJ circles. With attribution to you, of course. :-)

Thank you! This has been a very fun question to see people's responses to. I'm very curious to see what your large circle of friends has to say!
